Brookwood principal outlines new incentives, celebrates student engagement; district honors new teachers

One attendance incentive, described by staff as the “Here on Time Hot Classroom,” rewards punctual classes with a biweekly donut party. A PAW ticket system lets students who follow the code of conduct enter a monthly raffle for a lunch with the principal and shop at a Brookwood “PAW Shop.” The school has also held PSSA pep rallies for grades 3–5, and Osterberry said those events emphasized teamwork, focus and student confidence ahead of the state assessments.
Brookwood also held a book walk on April 25 to honor the late fourth-grade teacher Donna Baker; students and community members donated books for a school book vending machine. The school closed a ribbon-cutting for a new garden, with kindergarten students performing during the ceremony, Osterberry said. He described the school as ‘‘buzzing with fresh excitement’’ and encouraged the community to visit and observe the new programs.
Earlier in the meeting, Chief Academic Officer Amy Coleman led a new-teacher induction recognition. Several new teachers stood to be acknowledged by name and building assignment, including Carly Pfeiffer (kindergarten, Brookwood), Josh Powell (music, Brookwood; next year at Armstrong), and others assigned across district schools. Superintendent Joseph Nitti and board members thanked the new teachers for joining the district and praised the induction program.
