Finance committee approves Walk of Lights display and installation contract; event fully fundraised

The Waukesha City Finance Committee unanimously approved the 2025 Walk of Lights holiday display and a related field‑services contract at its May 27 meeting.
Rebecca Peterson, communications and engagement manager, told the committee the event is entering its fourth year and "this year, it's fully fundraised." Peterson said the city leases some display pieces and purchases others so the display changes from year to year. "We do lease a few items and purchase few items just so that there's some change in the items, every year," she said. Some larger pieces will be professionally installed under a separate contract for field services to supplement city crews during the holiday season.
Alderperson Lemke moved to approve item 5A, the Walk of Lights display, and Alderperson Helvin Slaven seconded. The committee then approved item 5B, a contract with Stolen Lights for field services, after a motion by Alderperson Moulson and a second by Alderperson Helvin Slaven. Both items passed by unanimous voice vote.
Peterson said the display is funded through a special revenue fund and that fundraising covers the estimated costs. The committee did not discuss a change in the scope of the display or the specific dollar amounts for leases and purchases during this meeting.
City staff said professional installation is proposed largely to address timing and safety constraints during the holiday season and to reduce pressure on city crews.
