Committee hears amendments to craft-brewing bill after stakeholder negotiation

Assembly Bill 404, addressing various changes for brewpubs and the craft brewing industry, was presented to the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means.
Assemblymember Howard Watts (Assembly District 15), the sponsor, told the committee the bill makes various changes related to the craft brewing industry and noted two policy amendments were incorporated following a policy hearing. "These came out of continuing discussions between the wholesalers, the craft brew association, and, as well as the Department of Taxation, and all parties are in agreement on this language," he said. Watts added that an unsolicited fiscal note from the Department of Taxation that appeared on earlier versions of the bill had been removed.
Support testimony included the Vegas Chamber, which said it supported AB 404 from a fiscal perspective. The Nevada State Education Association called in to oppose the bill; the caller identified with the Education Association said they stood in solidarity with Teamsters Local 14 and opposed the bill (opposition had been voiced earlier in the policy committee). The committee recorded no further neutral testimony and closed the hearing.
The sponsor offered no closing remarks at the end of the hearing. The committee did not record a final vote on AB 404 during the hearing portion recorded in the transcript.
