At the Kearney School District Board meeting on May 21, 2025, facilities staff reported that additions at Kearney Elementary, Dogwood and Hawthorne are substantially on schedule and “dried in” on the exterior, with interior finishes and site work planned for the summer.
A district construction representative said the second-floor space at Kearney Elementary has paint and ceiling grid up and that fixtures and flooring remain to be installed. He said Dogwood was the furthest along, with roof, windows and interior finishes largely complete and site work to follow the close of school. Hawthorne’s addition similarly is reported as dried in; crews planned flooring, fixture installation and trim out.
The district plans a period of demolition and concentrated interior work immediately after teachers move out. The presenter said deferred maintenance projects approved in prior months — including carpet replacement, window film and painting — will begin after school ends.
Board members requested a summer tour; staff said a tour will be scheduled. The updates were informational; no vote was required.
