At the May 21, 2025 Kearney School District Board meeting, music staff and student performers were recognized for statewide honors earned at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival and the state vocal contest at the University of Missouri (Mizzou).
Band director Mr. Heil told the board that 10 band students participated at state and the group earned three gold medals, one bronze and the remainder silver. Heil read names of students and the events in which they performed; not all students were present at the board meeting.
Vocal director Mr. McKinney reported that 16 vocal events qualified for state; four received gold medals and 12 received silver. McKinney listed soloists and ensembles, noting gold ratings for specific performers including Logan West and Jules Ford; a number of students attended an off-site theater banquet and were recognized separately.
Board members thanked staff and students for their achievements and for district support of fine arts programs. The recognitions were presented as part of the meeting’s regular acknowledgments and required no board action.
