Secondary-roads staff gave a broad operations update: ongoing shouldering and blacktop shoulder work around the county, planned milling and hot-in-place recycling on several routes, coordination with contractors whose schedules include neighboring counties, and materials and dust-control scheduling. Staff said weather remains the principal factor that could change work sequencing and that some projects tied to state or out-of-county contractor schedules may shift.
Auditor Carla (first name used in the meeting record) told supervisors she had circulated a letter from the sheriff's association, the 9-1-1 communications association and other entities requesting the governor consider a line-item veto of recently passed legislation identified in the meeting as Senate File 659. Carla said the associations view the bill as another way the state can shift or take money from counties.
On medical examiner operations, the board heard that Dr. Couche has agreed to serve as a county medical examiner and will visit the state medical examiner’s office for orientation rather than attending a five-day class. County staff said the state office praised Winnebago County’s medical-examiner procedures and paperwork and said the county “ranks above many other counties” in its practices. County staff named Dr. Carlson, Dale Rayhan and Molly Eschenberger for their roles in the medical-examiner program.
Supervisors closed the meeting after routine final items.
