Clarence Rillo, policy writer and analyst, told the council adoption was the first step and recommended follow-up conversations with the police department, the school department, the licensing body and community stakeholders to design a local implementation. “I'm only requesting the first step out of many,” Rillo said, noting that the state law incorporates related provisions of chapter 90, section 14C.
Why it matters: Acceptance of the enabling law allows Revere to consider deploying automated camera systems that would record vehicles illegally passing stopped school buses and to develop a local enforcement and operational framework.
