LCPS reports smooth start to 2025–26: buses, meals and Infinite Campus migration highlighted

Lenoir County Public Schools officials told the Board of Education on Sept. 8 that the 2025———2026 school year opened smoothly after a week of districtwide professional development and opening-day visits to all 17 schools.

Superintendent Brown thanked teachers, staff and families for a strong start and said staff visited every school on the first day of classes. Operations staff reported that school bus drivers logged more than 63,000 miles in the first nine days of school and that the transportation department currently has three driver vacancies (two elementary, one high school) plus two afternoon high-school route vacancies.

The district reported child nutrition staff had served nearly 30,000 breakfasts and 45,000 lunches in the first days. Maintenance completed 339 work orders in August and 85 work orders in the first four days of September, the operations report said.

Technology staff said LCPS completed a state-mandated migration from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus, moving roughly 8,000 student records and more than 1,000 staff accounts to the new system. District staff thanked the technology team for supporting the transition.

Athletics updates noted fall seasons were underway for volleyball and soccer and football was beginning; staff said activity bus mileage was not included in the transportation total.

Board members asked operational questions and staff offered to provide additional recruitment information about bus-driver training dates and the next face-to-face class schedule in November.
