Oak Ridge schools report student awards, community food pantry and record-setting baseball season

Highlights included Willowbrook Elementary’s end‑of‑year award assemblies; Robertsville Middle School’s seventh‑grade service learning project to rebuild a front‑campus garden with produce to be shared via Tabitha’s Table and Bryson’s Food Pantry; and mentorship from Oak Ridge High School cadets who visited Lakeway Christian Academy to advise students interested in NJROTC.
Board members reported a mobile food pantry hosted by Oak Ridge High School in collaboration with Second Harvest of East Tennessee and Compassion Ministries that served more than 400 families, with more than 50 volunteers. The board also noted AP participation and biliteracy achievements: the transcript reports that hundreds of Oak Ridge High School students took AP exams at Roane State Community College in May, and that 23 students were awarded the Volunteer State Seal of Biliteracy, with two earning the Honor Seal.
Athletics and records
Oak Ridge High School coaches reported a record-setting baseball season: the team won 36 games (the first Oak Ridge team to exceed 30 wins), became back‑to‑back district champions for the first time in 53 years, won the region for the first time since 1993 and reached the final four at the state tournament. Coach Travis Freeh and Coach Gaddis highlighted multiple school records broken, including team home runs (35), single-season pitching strikeouts, and improved team earned run average.
Individual achievements cited by the coaches included Mikey Teasley being named TSSAA Mr. Baseball for Class 4A; Teasley’s single-season strikeout total (125); Warren East setting single-season school records for hits (63), stolen bases (55) and runs (60); Camden Welch recording 9 pitching wins; and Parker Freeh setting a single-season RBI mark (51).
