Henderson County board recognizes new student advisory council members required by Tennessee law

"Beginning 07/01/2025, Tennessee law, this is a state law, requires that LEAs with high schools must have representation on the board or an advisory council in place," said Mr. Beech (staff member) when introducing the students. He said the district's advisory group includes rising seniors who will meet with him at least once a month to offer input on the board agenda.
Present at the meeting were Mason Hanna (rising senior, Scotts Hill High School), Aubrey (name provided as Aubrey; school referenced as Scotts Hill/Scottsdale), Billy Davis (rising senior, Westover), and one student from Lexington High School (name not specified at time of recognition). The presenter said the fifth member, Russell Wilson, notified staff that he would be absent. The students were selected by school staff at their respective schools.
Board members said they plan to meet with the students monthly and welcome their input on agenda items. No formal action or vote was required to recognize the students.
The district will use the advisory council to gather student perspectives on board business and said the students would be included in pre-meeting discussions with staff before regular board meetings.
