Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to seek reinstatement of two grants, forms executive committee

CJCC recommended creating an executive committee and will forward resolutions to request reinstatement of two grants — Building Bridges and Reaching Rural — after state funding was stopped in April; the county had not spent any funds for either program.
Mike, a CJCC representative, told the Public Safety Committee the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council has formed a preliminary executive committee and will add members. The initial committee includes Julie Lyons, Judge Elaine Smith, Kathy McCoy and Bruce Pochett.
The CJCC is preparing two resolutions — one related to a Building Bridges grant and one for a Reaching Rural opioid program — to ask the board to request the legislature to reinstate funding that was stopped in late April. Mike said the grants are supplemental to existing programming (Building Bridges for mental health/AODA assistance and Reaching Rural for opioid outreach) and that no grant funds had yet been spent.
The resolutions will go to CJCC next week and then to the full county board the following week; the CJCC will also send copies to Sawyer County's legislative delegation in hopes of restoring the awards.
