The Los Angeles City Council on Thursday confirmed four appointments to the oversight committee created under the bank linkage ordinance, voting 12-0 to approve the nominees.
Council President Pro Tem Ruth Galanter said the oversight committee is part of implementing the bank linkage ordinance and urged a unanimous vote. Councilmembers expressed support for nominee Mary Griego's “energy and dedication to the city” and noted other nominees bring experience from community-development and social-justice backgrounds.
Councilmember Janice Walters said she “continue[d] to be amazed at her energy and her dedication to the city of Los Angeles,” while Councilmember Mike Feuer and others noted the committee represents a balance between community-based organizations and banking industry perspectives that the ordinance envisioned.
Councilmember Robert Hernandez and others explained the committee will review work related to the ordinance, including studies and recommendations required by the new rule. The roll call showed “12 ayes,” and the council confirmed the appointees “forthwith.”
The council recorded that the appointees will begin their service immediately; members thanked the nominees for their willingness to serve and moved on to the next agenda item.
