Ojai parks commission seeks capital projects updates; schedules pool, CIP and pickleball items for future agendas

Commissioners said they want a digestible packet of historic documentation so new commissioners can review the city's past actions and current pipeline. Staff agreed to distribute documents and to return with a manageable number of CIP items for discussion at the July meeting.
Nordoff Pool and ongoing collaboration with the Ojai Unified School District were highlighted. A member of the public who identified himself as serving on the Ojai bond oversight committee asked whether the city and school district had responded to a joint letter about pool funding and said the oversight group is willing to coordinate on discounted access for city residents. Commissioners requested a status update and an offer of a site tour.
Commissioners also requested an update on the Soul Park/pickleball agreement and the related proposal for a noise/sound wall; staff said the sound-wall proposal is not ready for commission review because additional staff work is needed. The commission requested the agreement documentation for review once available.
Public-safety and operational reporting for parks drew specific attention. Commissioners asked whether historic sheriff reports that previously accompanied monthly commission packets (calls for service, vandalism, extra patrols) could be made available again for park-specific incidents so the commission can track trends and recommend mitigation (for example, signage or increased staff outreach). Staff said the request can be made to the sheriff's office and to the city manager for consideration.
Other items commissioners asked to schedule or receive: status of the Granicus rollout (for agenda/video/time-stamp access), a list of previous ad hoc committees, documentation from prior master plans relevant to parks and recreation, and an update on bike-path jurisdiction and potential projects (for example, connections near the high school and Seoul Park). A public commenter asked the commission to prioritize more outdoor basketball courts for youth recreation.
Commissioners agreed to consolidate these materials and prioritize CIP and pool updates for the July meeting. Staff will distribute the requested historical documents and the training video referenced earlier.
