Bountiful council approves Northern Utah IT mutual-aid agreement

The Bountiful City Council on April 22 approved a mutual-aid agreement that will let city IT staff share resources with neighboring municipalities during major outages or cyber incidents.
City IT Director Greg Martin told the council the agreement was developed with IT managers across Northern Utah so cities could lend or receive technical assistance to restore critical services. Martin said the agreement was drafted in consultation with the city attorney and the city manager and asked council members to approve signing the contract.
Council members asked whether other cities could join later. Martin said additional entities can be added but that any later additions would be brought back to the Bountiful City Council for approval. A councilmember moved to approve the agreement and the motion passed by voice vote.
The agreement is intended as a reciprocal emergency resource: a city experiencing a prolonged outage could request technicians, equipment, or other assistance from participating jurisdictions, and would provide similar aid to others when able. The list of initial participants is the set that has tentatively agreed so far; joining later requires formal approval by each jurisdiction.
The action will let Bountiful execute the mutual-aid contract and participate in the regional IT assistance network. Staff indicated they would return to the council if new entities requested to join so the council could approve amendments to the participant list.
