Historic Preservation Commission approves staff approvals for multiple addresses

The Historic Preservation Commission on June 4, 2025, approved a package of staff-recommended approvals covering more than a dozen addresses in the Victorian Village and Short North areas, moving several minor alteration requests to staff-level review.

Commission members voted to accept staff approvals that covered storefront, window and door alteration applications and other routine items. The motion passed by voice vote; one commissioner recused from at least one item.

Commissioners discussed a procedural recusal on one parcel (no further details specified in the record) and confirmed the commission’s practice of routing routine work to staff. The commission’s action allows staff to issue COAs and related approvals under the conditions set out in the staff reports without separate full-commission votes for each minor alteration.

The staff-approval vote is consistent with the commission’s written practice of delegating minor, clearly code-compliant alterations to staff, reducing the commission’s docket load.
