Council approves $238,171.54 pay request for 2025 street project; county Viking Boulevard work under way

At the June 9 meeting the council approved partial pay application No. 1 for the city's 2025 street improvement project, covering completed curb-and-gutter replacement and patching work.

Consulting Engineer Chuck told the council the partial pay application totaled $238,171.54 for work completed to date, primarily curb-and-gutter removal and replacement and some patching. He said a few cul-de-sacs and a short northern segment of Zion (from 220 Eighth to 220 Fourth) will not be fully reconstructed this year; that segment will be patched and is likely to be scheduled in a later contract year.

"We do have partial pay application number 1, for the 2025 Street improvement project in front of you. And it is for $238,171.54," the consulting engineer said. Council Member Tradewell moved approval; Council Member West seconded. The motion passed 5-0.

Engineers also briefed the council on separate county work: the county's Viking Boulevard project has replaced culverts and is widening the south side of the road and will stage traffic to allow subsequent work on the north side; Oak Grove staff said the county's work is progressing and will accommodate through traffic. Council members also discussed ongoing deterioration on County Road 22 where a prior concrete overlay over a different substrate has been failing; council members said they have asked the county to consider turn-lane or other mitigations at key intersections but that the county has not committed to cost-sharing.

Ending: The council approved the pay application and asked staff to coordinate with the county on traffic staging and intersection mitigation options as the county continues Viking Boulevard and County Road 22 work.
