Orderville to put park and ballfield construction projects to bid; grant requires project progress by year end

Members of the Orderville Town Board discussed next steps to move the new park and ballfield project into construction, agreed to put several items out to competitive bid, and reviewed grant timing that requires the project to show significant progress by December.

Staff proposed bidding excavation/dirt work and two buildings (concession stand and pavilion) and separately addressing the sprinkler system to avoid triggering procurement limits on larger bundled contracts. Board members said sprinkler work could be expedited by coordinating directly with local contractor Bucky (referred to informally) because specialty timing and crew availability could cause delays; they suggested contacting him to reserve schedule availability rather than waiting for bid results.

Staff said engineered site plans were not required by the grant agency, and the grant administrator told staff the project must be "well underway" with significant progress before year-end. Board members discussed survey and elevation concerns, water-line size and pressure (friction loss), and the need for electrical hookups and concessions layout; they asked public-works staff and the parks committee to coordinate final bid specifications. Staff planned to put packets out to bid with the aim of returning results to the board at the next meeting and start work within two weeks of award where feasible.

The board also discussed storage and temporary use of the old fire-station bays by the American Legion and the need to coordinate maintenance, power hookups and site staging as construction proceeds.
