The Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education approved a two-year renewal of the New America School Thornton charter contract for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.
Board members said during the limited discussion that New America School offers evening and weekend classes that serve students the district cannot currently accommodate, and they urged the school’s leadership to address identified shortcomings in special education services. The board indicated it will continue to monitor the charter’s provision of special education and expects the charter’s leadership to implement remedies where state or district requirements were previously unmet.
The motion to approve the renewal was adopted unanimously. The motion as recorded authorized the two-year renewal from 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2027; the board did not add conditions to the renewal on the meeting record but spoke to expectations for follow-up on services.
Votes: All present directors voted aye on the renewal motion.
