Council approves placement of Crime Stoppers "Scribe Stoppers" signs in Stafford

The council approved a request to place informational Crime Stoppers “Scribe Stoppers” signs at about 20–22 locations across the city, including neighborhood entrances and higher-traffic retail corridors. The project is a partnership among the Police Department, Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers and a local donor who has offered to provide additional poles at no cost to the city.
Police staff said the signs will encourage anonymous tips for investigations and complement existing community-safety efforts. The police coordinator said they had coordinated with Public Works to use existing poles when possible; Public Works will handle installation. The Police Officers Association volunteered to cover the cost of any additional poles that the donor does not provide. “Crime Stoppers has been a valuable asset to us. They assist in our investigations,” a staff presenter said.
Council asked about site selection and whether locations were chosen by Crime Stoppers or the department; staff said Lieutenant Lopez and Crime Stoppers suggested the locations. Council also confirmed there would be no cost to the city unless additional poles were needed; if so, the Police Officers Association offered to pay for those poles.
A motion to approve placement of the signs at the proposed locations passed 6–0 on a recorded vote of the council.
