Senate appoints conference committee for S.45 and moves to message action to House

The Vermont Senate on Friday took S.45 up for immediate action and then voted to appoint a committee of conference to resolve differences with the House. The motion that the Senate not concur and appoint a committee of conference carried on the floor; the motion was announced as adopted and a conference committee was named.
Senator from Windham requested the appointment of a conference committee. The presiding officer announced the conference committee members for S.45 as Senator Norris, Senator Plunkett and Senator Ingalls. The Senate also moved, by suspension of the rules, to message the chamber’s recent actions on S.45 and H.266 to the House forthwith.
No roll-call tally for the conference-committee motion on S.45 was recorded in the floor excerpt; the presiding officer stated, “The ayes have it,” when the motion passed. The conference committee will meet with House conferees as that body determines; the Senate indicated in floor remarks that it expects conference committees to report back promptly given the approaching adjournment.
Next steps The Senate asked that conference committees report back quickly; lawmakers noted they would work to conclude their business by the next day but said additional days might be required if conferences do not finish.
