Willis ISD trustees approved the consent agenda, including authorization of the delivery method for new bleachers, following a staff report that bids were higher than anticipated and that purchase timelines would not meet the upcoming football season.
A board member asked whether the district’s bleacher units were functioning; staff replied the fire marshal inspected the campuses last Friday and passed the reinspection. Another board member asked about whether the new standard bleachers would compare with previous ones and about timing. Staff said several bids were requested for bleachers, the returned prices were substantially higher than expected and the timeline would not allow delivery in time for football season.
"We've asked for bids on, several different items as far as bleachers. We got those back. Those are quite a bit costly, more costly than we anticipated. And the timeline is not gonna be in time for football season. So we are going to rent again this year, but still proceed with purchasing," the presenter said.
Trustees moved to approve the consent agenda as presented; the motion by Mr. Williams, second by Mr. Carson, carried 7-0. The board’s vote authorized staff to continue the procurement process and return with firm numbers and a purchase timeline.
