Willis ISD approves memorandum with Montgomery County Food Bank to serve as disaster relief site

The Willis ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Montgomery County Food Bank that designates the district’s resource center as the North Montgomery County disaster relief site, a district presenter said.
“...it would establish the resource center as the North Montgomery County disaster relief site. We would get 5 pallets and be able to serve approximately 225 families at no cost in the event that we have a natural disaster this summer,” the presenter said. The motion to approve the MOU was made by Mr. Carson and seconded by Coach Perry; the motion carried 7-0.
Staff told trustees the pallets would be staged at the district’s resource center in a location described as the right hallway past the Education Foundation door and would occupy roughly 25 feet of space. The arrangement is intended to allow the district to begin serving families immediately after a storm rather than waiting for post-storm distribution capacity from the food bank.
Board members did not record further conditions or financial commitments during the public discussion. The MOU sets up a pre-positioning arrangement to support local disaster response in North Montgomery County.
