Roseville Council approves $500 grants for four high school sober grad nights

The Roseville City Council voted unanimously May 21 to award $500 each from the council discretionary fund to four local high schools to support their annual sober grad night events.
City Manager staff told the council the request totaled $2,000 — $500 each for Roseville, Woodcreek, West Park and Oakmont high schools — and that the council's discretionary account balance was $9,800. Council members moved and seconded approval without amendment.
Parents representing Roseville High School and Oakmont High School addressed the council in favor of the funding. Amy Patterson, speaking as a parent volunteer for Roseville High School, said the event “keeps our kids and our graduates safe” and helps students who otherwise could not attend. Leah Pryor, booster president for Oakmont High School, thanked the council and said the event is costly and the council grant would “help tremendously.”
The roll call vote recorded Vice Mayor Karen Albert, Councilmembers Helgesheld, Mandanza and Acucci, and Mayor Bernasconi as voting yes. The motion passed and the funds will be distributed to the four schools as approved.
