DeKalb commissioners approve and defer multiple items: traffic calming approvals, zoning deferrals, tentative millage rate adopted

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners conducted a heavy business agenda on May 29 and took a mix of approvals and deferrals across public-safety, planning and finance items.

Traffic calming and neighborhood safety - Marsh Rabbit Bend: The board approved beginning the 90-day petition process for a traffic-calming district on Marsh Rabbit Bend (the agenda was listed as “2020Five-six37”). Staff recommended approval and the commission voted to proceed with the petition process. No specific staff or county cost was identified during discussion; the petition process triggers neighborhood outreach and an implementation phase managed by Public Works. - Aldergate Drive / Tudor Castle Way: The board approved rescission of the original traffic-calming district and creation of a new district that removes one speed table in front of a resident’s home. Staff said removal is a nominal labor-only expense and that the remaining traffic-calming devices in the district will stay in place. The applicant described repeated vibration problems and provided testimony about an autistic grandchild whose sleep was affected by the device.
