The Janesville School District’s facilities team on May 20 presented a 2025–26 capital maintenance ledger listing roof repairs, gym exit door replacements, asphalt and drainage projects and other site work, and flagged several projects as contingent on final bids and available funds.
Dave Leader, facilities staff and contractors joined the Finance, Buildings & Grounds Committee on May 20 to review the district’s 2025–26 capital maintenance ledger and identified projects that will be prioritized if funding is available.
Leader walked the committee through the listing. High-cost items flagged in the plan include asphalt replacement at Jackson Elementary (not funded in the current budget), colonnade and soffit/fascia repairs at Roosevelt Elementary, replacement of six rusted gym exit door frames at Parker High School and terrazzo repairs for an interior staircase adjacent to Parker’s exit door 5.
Staff also pointed to recurring site work needs: failed catch basins, drainage corrections in playground and parking areas, and annual concrete replacement accounts for sidewalks and service walks. Facilities staff said some items are marked “caution” because current estimates and bids are pending; the committee was told a project may be delayed until end-of-year balances and final bids are available.
Several smaller safety-focused investments were discussed as multi-year improvements. Facilities staff described a plan to replace rented “walk-off” mats with permanent walk-off carpet at some entries to reduce slip hazards and ongoing rental costs. Staff said the change both addresses safety concerns raised by the district’s workers’ compensation provider and reduces recurring rental expenditures over time.
Committee members asked whether building principals and custodial staff had been briefed; Leader said principals would be notified once final quotes and bidding decisions are completed.
No formal funding decision was made at the meeting; staff said one line—Fund 10 capital maintenance—had $720,000 identified but that specific projects will be confirmed after bids and a final review of available funds.
