The Charles County Board of Education heard an overview of the district’s community schools during its May 13 meeting.
The board was told community school designation is determined by the state based on free and reduced-price meals eligibility and that the number of community schools in Charles County Public Schools will grow from 10 to 14 for the 2025–26 school year. Each designated community school has a dedicated community school coordinator who works with families and the school to identify needs and connect students to services.
Board vice chair Nicole Kramer summarized services community schools provide, including food resources, laundry services and access to health screenings, and described the program as offering “wraparound services” for families most in need. The board received the update; no formal vote on designation was taken at the meeting.
