Mayor Kandel, Vice Mayor McCormick and others noted Dawson's steady leadership, her approach to nonpartisan problem-solving and her work on issues including infrastructure and public safety. Dawson asked that her departure not be cause for alarm; she said she had "the utmost confidence" in the council and staff to continue city business.
