Portsmouth district updates strategic plan timing and closes two bond projects; middle school bathroom renovations next

On facilities, the district building committee — a town‑level group that oversees bond projects — reported that all projects at Melville and Hathaway schools are completed and paid for and will be closed out so the district can resubmit reimbursement requests. The next bond‑funded project is the Portsmouth Middle School bathroom renovation. Administrators said a protocol to move fifth and sixth graders to different bathrooms during the work, adopted May 6, has operated without parent concerns so far.
Superintendent Kenworthy (presenting district updates) also said the school building authority at RIDE authorized work to begin on a partial high school roof replacement, with work scheduled to begin no later than June 23 and with a contractor already coordinating earlier starts for auditorium sections. The district will provide further coordination with facilities staff and the contractor.
No formal district action was taken on the strategic plan upload or building committee closeouts during the meeting; the roof work has RIDE authorization and is proceeding under existing contracts.
