The Portsmouth School Committee received a report on staff wellness efforts tied to district Goal 2, including a recently held staff wellness day funded by a Rhode Island Department of Education wellness grant.
Missus McGuire, who presented the report, said the event offered staff‑led and external sessions that introduced district wellness resources and encouraged staff to connect with program representatives. The presentation emphasized that the event was intended to be part of ongoing programming rather than a one‑time activity.
McGuire said the district ran a one‑question pre/post survey asking staff how they were feeling; she reported the majority of respondents reported feeling better after the event. “It’s a small snapshot, but a meaningful one,” McGuire said, describing the survey result.
Committee members praised the day and noted the event’s energy. Several members said volunteer teacher‑led workshops and a positive keynote contributed to a strong professional development experience.
McGuire also said the district will add a bloodborne pathogens policy to the staff resources on the HR website; that policy will be available as part of continuing staff‑health work.
No formal committee vote was required for the update.
