Howard said distribution points are planned across the county, including Clinton Township and locations in Mount Clemens, Eastpointe, Warren and Center Line; he said he will circulate dates and additional details by email. "We're starting June 1, and so I'll email out all those dates and stuff, so that you guys are aware," Howard said.
Howard framed the distribution as a public‑safety measure and cited recent local incidents involving unsecured firearms, including a call in which a dispatcher helped de‑escalate a situation involving access to an unsecured gun. "As a gun owner myself, I just want to continue to promote safety," he said.
The board did not vote on the distribution plan during the meeting; Howard said the Michigan State Police provided the gun locks and that county staff will coordinate distribution.
