Chris Heinz, president of the Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation, said the organization focuses on people ages 18 to 40 who face cancer and survivorship. "What we do is we host a camp where we bring in 12, typically 12 to 15 young adults ... and we bring them the opportunity through adventure‑based programs that they get a chance to, first of all, connect with peer support," Heinz said.
Alexis, donor development manager for the foundation, told commissioners the funds are "instrumental in supporting our programming" and that an event in June will benefit directly from the board's donation. The board moved to receive and file the presentation; the motion passed unanimously as recorded in the meeting transcript.
The foundation's programs, as described at the meeting, emphasize peer connection and physical confidence after cancer treatment. The presentation was part of the board's regular "casual day" recipient recognitions, a program in which employee donations are pooled and distributed to nonprofit organizations selected by the county.
