Shawnee County Extension Office staff told the Board of County Commissioners on May 22 that the office will close for 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily during June while a support‑staff transition is completed.
Candice Stiles of the Shawnee County Extension Office said the office’s current main office professional has a last day this Friday and the replacement will not start until June 10. “Our board is asking that we close for lunch 11:15 to 12:15 the month of June,” Stiles said, explaining the temporary change will ensure the new employee can be trained and that staff also use annual leave and attend extension events.
Stiles told commissioners the closure is temporary and asked that the board be aware because visitors seeing a sign on the door may raise questions. The extension office remains open outside the specified lunch hour; Stiles said the office is trying to avoid service gaps while training the new hire and covering summer programming days.
There was no formal action requested of the commissioners during the meeting.
