County awards five‑year mitigation maintenance contract to Sound Native Plants for up to $500,000

Thurston County commissioners on May 20 approved awarding a contract for environmental mitigation site maintenance services to Sound Native Plants Inc. of Portland, Oregon, in an amount up to $500,000.
Elena Fernandez, senior environmental coordinator with Public Works, said mitigation sites are created to meet federal, state and local permitting requirements and that they require monitoring periods and performance measures set by regulatory authorities. The proposed contract term is a one‑year base period with four one‑year renewal options (maximum five years) and includes guaranteed rates. Public Works said all contract expenditures will be funded through the respective project budgets within the Public Works Division.
The motion authorized the director of Public Works to execute the contract and include up to 10 percent additional contingency ($50,000) for a total not to exceed $550,000, and to approve option extensions and subsequent work orders. The motion passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
