Jared Tatro, deputy division manager for Legislative Services’ Budget and Policy Analysis Division, told the committee that public schools do not receive a flat per-FTE payment but instead receive a dollar amount per support unit. "The motion and the correction before you will say to provide $21,902 in that maintenance bill for distributions," Tatro said.
The committee's cochair requested unanimous consent to accept the calculated per-support-unit health insurance amount and include it in the program maintenance bill for public schools; no committee member objected and the chair ordered the change. The committee did not record further debate or a roll-call vote on the adjustment.
The correction reflects a rounding to the nearest dollar from a calculated $21,901.50 and is intended to give the Department of Education a precise figure for distribution.
Committee materials and the budget analyst’s presentation noted the reason for the correction: the statutory requirement that the bill language include the exact dollar amount so the department can make distributions to school support units.
No additional fiscal detail or amendments to the larger maintenance bill were recorded during this brief action.
The committee moved on to other agency budget reviews after approving the technical correction.
