Dare County honors longtime finance director Dave Clawson and introduces new chief financial officer Matt Matika

At its June 9 meeting, the Dare County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation honoring Finance Director and Deputy County Manager Dave Clawson for more than 35 years of service to the county.
Chairman Woodard read a proclamation that detailed Clawson’s record, including clean audits, the county’s long streak of certificates of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association, and credit-rating upgrades the county received under his leadership. The board voted unanimously to approve the proclamation and presented Clawson with a copy.
County management introduced Matt Matika, the county’s new chief financial officer, who began with the county on May 27. The county manager told commissioners that Matika joins Dare County after serving as associate vice president of finance at Williams College (Massachusetts), holds a CPA, and brings more than 15 years of finance and accounting experience. Matika will oversee the finance department, tax collections, appraisal and the IT department.
Board members offered personal remarks thanking Clawson for his assistance and leadership and welcoming Matika to Dare County.
