Council briefed on Malvern Hills design amendment and donation of Stevens‑Lee playground

Dundas said the amendment "does not commit us to any one design" and is intended to preserve the target project schedule (noting a proposed startup in 2028) while providing flexibility to study options requested by neighborhood groups. Council members asked whether approving the contract amendment on Oct. 14 would limit further design changes; staff replied it would not — the amendment extends the designer’s scope so community feedback can continue to be considered.
Separately, staff highlighted a playground donated by Superior Recreational Products to Asheville Parks & Recreation. The manufacturer exhibited the playground at a national conference and then donated the exhibit playground to the city; staff said installation at Stevens‑Lee is underway and photos will be shared with council.
