Director James Zurenda of the Nevada Department of Corrections told the Senate Finance Committee that Assembly Bill 542 would continue an existing appropriation to finish integrating the sentencing management system into the Nevada Offender Tracking Information System (NOTIS). He said Syscon, the vendor that owns the sentencing system, was unable to complete the required upgrade by June 30 and the department needs a one‑year extension to finish and incorporate changes required by Senate Bill 413.
Zurenda said the original appropriation in 2021 funded work to integrate offender management functions but the vendor delay requires continuation; without the extension the department would have to return unspent funds to the general fund at the end of June. Department staff were available in Carson City to answer technical questions but no callers registered to testify for or against the bill in the hearing transcript.
