Denton County proclaims June 2025 as Women Veterans Day

The Denton County Commissioners Court unanimously adopted a proclamation on June 10 declaring June 2025 as Women Veterans Day in Denton County.
Paul, the county veteran service officer on the record, explained the proclamation and noted that in 2017 Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 805 creating recognition for Women Veterans Day in Texas. "Back in 2017, the state of Texas, authorized Women's Veterans Day to be recognized," Paul said. "...on June 2017, Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, signed senate bill 805 declaring that June 12 be celebrated as Women Veterans Day."
Stella Bartlett, identified on the record as the assistant county veteran service officer, and other veteran service office staff were present. Commissioners thanked the VSO staff and noted that women comprise more than 12% of Texas' veteran population, a percentage that is growing, language the proclamation itself repeats.
The motion to adopt the proclamation was made "by Commissioner Edmondson, by Commissioner Mitchell" and the measure carried unanimously. Commissioners praised the local veteran service navigators and urged residents to recognize the contributions of women who served in the U.S. armed forces.
No county budget appropriation was tied to the proclamation during the June 10 meeting; commissioners used the moment to acknowledge county veteran services and the local VSO staff.
