Trustees approve landscaping easement with VA Center; VA to maintain buffer adjacent to Maguire Park

Trustees approved a resolution authorizing a landscaping easement for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) development project and accepted the related landscaping-easement agreement.
Zoning and economic development staff explained that during site layout the VA project's entrance and parking configuration compressed available easement space, which squeezed required buffering and electrical infrastructure. The revised easement realigns landscaping into the easement area and the VA Center agreed to maintain the landscaping perpetually.
Cassie (staff) reviewed the plant choices and said she was "really happy with the variety of plants that they chose." Trustees asked about invasive species and potential impacts on adjoining Maguire Park; staff said they did not anticipate invasive plants or other problems.
The trustees voted by roll call to approve the resolution and then the landscaping easement agreement: Trustee Nick Coia, Yes; Trustee Mike, Yes; Trustee Sue, Yes. Trustees authorized a notary signing and staff follow-up to complete the documents.
The easement changes include cross-easement coordination with Maguire Park and a commitment by the VA Center to maintain the landscaping in perpetuity; trustees said the landscaping will also serve as the delineation between parkland and VA property, with no fencing planned.
