The Planning Commission unanimously approved a permanent license-to-use for a new ADA-accessible ramp that will occupy five feet of the public sidewalk adjacent to a commercial storefront on Market Street (case 25P-022).
Planning staff said the building fronts Market and is built to the property line, leaving no on-site option for an ADA ramp; the proposed ramp will run roughly 18 linear feet along the north side of the building and will leave sufficient clear pedestrian access between the ramp and the curb. Staff reported 61 notices were mailed and no city departments or private utilities objected; staff recommended approval subject to specific and standard conditions and noted the applicant will coordinate relocation of a city bench in the sidewalk.
The applicant, Catherine Hughes, said the new ramp will provide a compliant, safer entrance for clients who previously used a makeshift ramp and that the design includes textured depressed-detectable warning surfaces to help wheelchair users. Commissioners confirmed the ramp footprint would not block the whole sidewalk and had no objections. The motion to approve carried unanimously.
