Board amends county code to clarify consolidation of county surveyor and road commissioner roles

The Kings County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt an amendment to Article 1, Chapter 2, Section 2-4.1 of the Kings County Code of Ordinances clarifying the consolidation of the county surveyor and road commissioner roles under the Director of Public Works.
Michael Amin, Administrative Analyst in County Administration, told the board the consolidation had originally been established by Ordinance No. 682 in April 2017 and the amendment strengthens the county’s ability to meet professional licensure requirements when the appointed Director of Public Works does not hold certain credentials. The amendment authorizes the county to designate another qualified employee, retain a part-time licensed professional, or contract with a public or private agency to provide required qualifications and continuity of service.
Amin said there is no immediate fiscal impact; any costs for staffing or contracted services would be addressed through the regular budget process. The ordinance was introduced and the first reading waived at the May 13 meeting; if adopted the summary will be published as required and the ordinance will take effect 30 days from adoption.
The board moved to waive the second reading and adopt the ordinance on roll call vote.
