The Balch Springs Community and Economic Development Corporation (Type B) voted May 28 to sponsor two regional programs: the Best Southwest legislative series at up to $750 and a Leadership Southwest marketing sponsorship at up to $2,100.
Director Katisha Bruner moved to approve the Best Southwest sponsorship; Director Helen Shelby seconded. Staff said the $750 sponsorship includes marketing exposure, a 30‑second promotional video and reserved seats for EDC representatives at the August legislative series; Type A has agreed to pay half of the sponsorship. The board voted unanimously to approve the sponsorship.
For Leadership Southwest, Director Shelby moved and Director Adams seconded a $2,100 sponsorship to host a Leadership Southwest class session in Balch Springs. Staff said the sponsorship pays for marketing and helps cover costs such as a bus and meals for the class day; the total sponsorship and event costs are split between Type A and Type B. The board voted unanimously to approve the Leadership Southwest sponsorship.
Staff said both sponsorships support ongoing economic development outreach and networking that city staff and officials use to promote local sites and build developer relationships. Board members who attend were encouraged to register for sessions and to use the events for outreach to prospective developers.
