South Gate council confirms Margarita Valenzuela to Planning Commission

The South Gate City Council on Tuesday voted to ratify Council member Maria Del Tilar Abalos's appointment of Margarita Valenzuela to the city Planning Commission.
Valenzuela, who introduced herself to the council as a South Gate resident since 1994, told council members she hopes to “bring together the community” and represent neighborhood interests on land-use matters.
The nomination was moved by Council member Maria Del Tilar Abalos and seconded by Council member Gail Rosado. A roll-call vote recorded five yeses and no recorded no votes; the mayor declared the motion carried. After the vote, Valenzuela received brief congratulations from council members.
Valenzuela said she and her family have lived in South Gate for a little over 30 years and told the council she looks forward to working with current planning commissioners and representing neighborhood priorities.
The appointment fills a vacancy on the Planning Commission; the council did not discuss any additional conditions or changes to the commission membership during the motion.
The council moved quickly to the next agenda items after the confirmation.
