The Metuchen Board of Education’s construction committee reported at the May 27 meeting that work at Metuchen High School continues and remains on schedule, and that committee members reviewed soils testing, transformer relocation and pending change orders.
Committee chair Mister Glassberg told the board the committee met May 19 and was briefed by project professionals on soils testing at the high‑school worksite and compliance steps. He said pending change orders include a transformer relocation and removal of dirt from sites, and that those change orders are being processed "on advice of our professionals" with ongoing discussions among contractors and architects.
"Everything is on track to start school on time and the project continues to move forward at the same pace that we discussed last time," Glassberg reported. He added the next construction committee meeting will be June 16 and is open to the public at 7 p.m. in the Metuchen High School library.
The committee also said it received an overview from the district collaborative committee for health and safety. Topics included ID checks at the high school, air filtration and fire alarms; the collaborative committee reported a "relative lack of major concerns" from staff regarding construction impacts.
No formal board action was taken at the May 27 meeting; the construction committee will consider change orders in future committee sessions and recommend actions to the full board as needed.
