Lakeville Parks Commission votes to hire all lifeguard and attendant applicants pending interviews

The Town of Lakeville Parks Commission approved hiring all applicants recommended for lifeguard and attendant positions, with final offers pending interviews and verification of certifications.

Doug, a Parks Department staff member who recommended the hires, told the commission he reviewed applications and recommended hiring a pool of part-time lifeguards to provide flexible coverage. He said, “We hired the 7 people that are there because 3 or 4 of them said they wanted to work part time... I can easily get them 20, 25 hours a piece and some will want more and some will want less.”

Commissioners asked about certification levels and whether to reserve slots for applicants completing lifeguard training; staff said several applicants already submitted certifications and that the department will continue recruiting through July. The commission also noted a disclosure: one applicant is the child of a board member. The board discussed the disclosure and agreed to interview the applicant and remove the board member from any hiring vote related to their relative.

A commissioner moved to hire all ten applicants for lifeguard and attendant positions under Doug’s recommendation, pending interviews; another commissioner seconded the motion and the commission approved it.
