Fire-department representatives and staff said the town has specified a pump capable of about 4,500 gallons per minute and a boom reach of roughly 45 feet. The fire representatives said the unit is uniquely suited to the town's needs due to portability and deployment characteristics; the town characterized the procurement as a sole-source acquisition because Puck is the local distributor for that equipment.
The town manager said lead time was quoted as "68 months" and then suggested "call it a year" when council members expressed concern; staff and council discussed storage and temporary covers until the new public-safety building can house the equipment. Council members who had supported the original November ballot measure said the referendum specified the equipment type and that the town should complete the procurement.
The council approved the purchase by voice vote; the transcript contains no roll-call tally. The town will coordinate storage and power access and expects to finalize placement and housing plans tied to the new public-safety building as that project advances.
