One resident called for broadening the letter beyond Block Island to cover District 1, where the Coast Guard had proposed removing hundreds of buoys.
"For example, they're planning to remove R2 right off the point... If you stay inside that, you're asking for trouble," a speaker said during the discussion referring to proposed removals and local navigation risks. The council amended the resolution to request a collaborative process with all District 1 stakeholders and to copy federal and state officials.
The motion, as amended, passed by voice vote; the transcript does not contain a roll-call tally. Council members said they would ensure senators and representatives receive the adopted letter.
