Davie County Schools to switch website vendor, launch mobile app and meet ADA deadline

The team previewed a mobile app that will push live notices, calendar events and news to families and staff.
Jarvis said the move responds to an expiring five‑year contract with the current vendor and to repeated requests for an easier editing experience for school staff. She said Apogee’s content editor will allow multiple staff per school to maintain pages and that the new design shows more visible news items, an events feed tied to the district calendar and a dedicated translate button.
A central rationale for the change is accessibility compliance. Jarvis said the district must meet federal accessibility requirements (Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act) by 2027 and that Apogee provides tools and processes to make images, captions, navigation and color contrast compliant. She said some content did not transfer because it was not ADA‑compliant and will be rebuilt with accessible captions, alt text and readable formatting.
The mobile app — a separate download linked from godavie.org — will surface live feed alerts, calendar items and news pushed from district systems. Jarvis noted integration options with Infinite Campus and said the district will decide which notification pathways to use; the district currently relies on Infinite Campus for many mass communications. Board members asked whether the system will be used for athletic cancellations and were told the live feed can support weather delays, emergency alerts and calendar-driven notifications if enabled.
Training is under way: the communications team is training three to five staff at each school to maintain content. Jarvis said the June 24 launch date should be seamless for users; staff will continue to refine pages and links over the summer.
No formal vote was taken on the website vendor or launch date during the presentation; the communications staff asked the board to note the update and to support the transition work.
