Council discusses event revenue policy and summer events lineup including Culture Connection and International Days

A council member proposed that income from events such as International Days be set aside so any net revenue could be used for the next year's event. City staff said current accounting treats event revenue as offsetting departmental costs (parks, streets, police) and that payroll and overtime should be included in event costs; when those employee costs are accounted for, staff said many events do not generate net revenue. Staff said they will review how employee and overtime costs are recorded and report back on whether a restricted fund or accounting change is feasible.
Separately, staff reported the Culture Connection summer series will include the band Bombshell (noting the drummer is the governor's son) and that movies in the park will feature Shrek on Friday and The Goonies on Saturday. International Days planning continues; staff said they selected a grand marshal and junior grand marshal and are finalizing programming.
