Davis County OKs update to surviving-spouse trust agreement with state

Davis County commissioners on June 10 approved an updated cost-sharing agreement with the Utah Department of Public Safety that governs reimbursements from the Local Public Safety and Firefighter Surviving Spouse Trust Fund.
The agreement, presented by Human Resources Director Chris Bone, adds dental and vision to the list of reimbursable benefits and eliminates a previous waiting period before the county could seek reimbursement from the trust fund. Bone said the changes mean the county can "cover the surviving spouse and family under the terms of our coverages and be reimbursed right away through this trust fund agreement." He also said the trust fund changes did not increase the county—s rate. A motion to approve the agreement passed without recorded opposition.
Commissioners characterized the update as a benefit for families of public safety officers who die in the line of duty. The county did not supply vote-by-name tallies in the meeting record. The agreement runs under the terms presented by Human Resources and will be administered according to the trust fund—s rules and the Department of Public Safety procedures.
